Nippon Koei Energy Solutions Co., Ltd.(Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hiroshi Yokota; hereinafter, NKES), a subsidiary of Integrated Design & Engineering Holdings Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Executive President: Hiroaki Shinya), and ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Kazuhiko Kuniya; hereinafter, HAZAMA ANDO) will promote the grid storage battery business through Nakatsugawa Power Storage LLC, a joint venture between the two companies. This is the first time for both companies to enter the grid storage battery business in Japan.
In recent years, with the expansion of renewable energy, the importance of grid storage batteries as a means of adjusting the balance between power supply and demand has increased. In particular, in the Chubu region, there is a significant shortage of market bids for primary and secondary control reserves, which require rapid response, so storage batteries that can contribute to stabilizing the power grid are becoming increasingly important. The purpose of this project is to contribute to the stabilization of the power grid by charging and discharging the batteries at the Nakatsugawa Power Storage through transactions in three electricity markets (the wholesale electricity market, the supply and demand adjustment market, and the capacity market). We expect this project will be established as sustainable business, both environmentally and financially, similar to the projects in Europe.
Since 2017, NKES has been developing its storage battery business in Belgium and the United Kingdom, countries where the energy market is leading the way. NKES will promote this project by leveraging its expertise in storage battery business development, EPC, and aggregation, which NKES have cultivated in Europe, as well as its knowledge of energy management systems that optimally control storage batteries.
In addition, HAZAMA ANDO is working on renewable energy projects, including a decision to invest in a biomass power generation project in 2021. HAZAMA ANDO are participating in this project since we believe it is of great social significance as it will contribute to expanding the introduction of renewable energy and, ultimately, to achieving carbon neutrality.
The project aims to start construction of grid storage batteries with an output of 20 MW and a capacity of 80 MWh in March 2025, and to begin operation in 2028.
With a sense of mission to support the electric power and energy infrastructure that is indispensable to modern society, NKES will create and provide new value by responding to a wide range of customer and partner needs to address various energy-centered social issues.
HAZAMA ANDO has set " Create Environmental Value" as one of the four value creation elements in its long-term vision " Hazama Ando VISION2030" and aims to pass on a rich global environment to the next generation. Through this project, HAZAMA ANDO will steadily promote efforts to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized, low-impact, recycling-oriented society.
